12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Wellness-Health vs. Disease Seminar

Faculty and Staff Only
Experiencing good health is something we all desire.  However, surprisingly few people understand just how much control we have over how healthy we are.  In our current health culture we are led to believe that health is something that comes from “out there” via good luck, good genes, or good pharmaceutical drugs.  Your health is in your hands and this class will give you some foundational building blocks for building health.  You will leave this class with a clear understanding of how to build and maintain health through knowledge, commitment, and empowerment.  Be your own health champion!

Laurie Warren has been studying the principles of health and nutrition for over 15 years.  For more information about Laurie please visit www.warrenwellness.net.

Who:  Anyone!

When:  Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 12-1:00pm in Nichols 170.

12:00 PM - 12:45 PM Wellness-Tai Chi

Faculty and Staff Only
Tai Chi is a gentle exercise for body and mind.  With its roots in Chinese martial arts and traditional Chinese medicine, Tai Chi uses slow and gentle movements to build your balance, strength, flexibility and focus.  No matter your age or physical condition, you can practice Tai Chi.  Scientific studies support the effectiveness of Tai Chi in improving the lives of people with chronic conditions, such as arthritis, diabetes, and osteoporosis.  Most of all, Tai Chi is relaxing and fun.  So come as you are, in comfortable clothes, with flat-soled shoes.  You will learn the basic principles of Tai Chi as well as exercises and a short form you will be able to practice on your own.  The course will be taught by faculty member Carolyn Hotchkiss, who has studied Yang and Sun style Tai Chi for five years, and is certified to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis.

Who:   Any Babson employee who is interested in exploring Tai Chi.  The class is appropriate for those just beginning as well as those who have practiced before.
