All Day From Root to Sky: Sachiko Akiyama (Multi-Day Event)

Artist Talk and Reception: Wednesday, April 5, 5:00 P.M.
Exhibit on View: April 5–May 19
Sachiko Akiyama’s work brings together artistic influences of Brancusi, Egyptian funerary sculptures, medieval Christian woodcarvings, and contemporary sculptors with the artist’s personal experiences and Japanese heritage, notably Japanese fairy tales.  Her carvings convey a sense of centeredness and direct connections to nature that opens up the door to creation mythologies and other mystical possibilities. The figures’ relationships to flora, fauna, and the elements speak metaphorically to the ways we find meaning in our lives and meet the challenges of our surroundings.

Students across campus will join together with ONE and CREATE to contribute to canvases, each with a theme of identity, community, diversity, etc. These finished collaborative pieces of art will be gifted to offices around Babson as Babson students continue to contribute to creating their own spaces of inclusion.

6:30 AM - 7:30 AM Wellness - Beginner/Intermediate Boot Camp
Boot Camp is a 50 minute, two day a week program designed to improve your cardio endurance, build strength and induce weight loss.  The personalized approach to group exercise makes the class fun and motivating in pursuit of results and your personal goals.  Instructor Craig Paris uses a variety of body weight exercises, resistance bands, agility drills, running, and plyometric training to activate multiple muscle groups and burn the maximum amount of calories during class.

Mindful eating has the power to transform people’s relationship to food and eating, to help improve overall health, body image, relationships and self-esteem. Mindful eating draws upon the use of mindfulness meditation, which helps focus our attention and awareness on the present moment, and in turn helps us disengage from habitual, unsatisfying and unhelpful habits and behaviors.  This seminar will teach participants to become a mindful eater and overcome the unhealthy habits that lead to overeating and weight gain. Please join us in Nichols 170.

This method of yoga has many benefits because it combat stress by utilizing both the mind and the body. The SavSani Mind, silences and redirects the mind to become calm and effective in this world of over-stimulation and stress. The SavSani Body technique brings the body to its ultimate strength and correct alignment by removing any aliments felt within.

The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Originally created by Alberto “Beto” Perez in Columbia, Zumba® is a Latin inspired dance fitness class that combines interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms to sculpt and tone your body while burning fat.  Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, and to get hooked.  Zumba® fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in every calorie-burning, body-energizing class.  This class is perfect for all fitness levels and no dance experience is necessary!

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Wellness Improv Show

Back by popular demand…Richie Moriarty and Matt Catanzano!  You may remember Richie and Matt from our Challenge Wrap Up Celebration in 2016. Richie Moriarty has been working in comedy for years, was part of the mainstage cast at the Improv Asylum in Boston from 2006-2010, and has been in numerous movies and television shows including “How To Be Single” and “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”  Matt Catanzano is a main stage performer/writer at the Improv Asylum, in addition to acting in various plays, films, and commercials. Together, Richie and Matt created the Youtube series “Simply Unemployable,” where they write, direct, and act in their own web series and one-off sketches.

Sorenson Black Box

Among Beckett’s most autobiographical works, Rough for Radio II, The Old Tune, and Krapp’s Last Tape explore universal questions of creativity, memory, aging, sex, friendship, and the proximity of death. These plays from his mid-career are traditionally viewed as individual statements, but the three provide a wealth of impressions when placed in conversation with one another, giving us a better understanding of the legendary playwright’s intellect, passion, and temperament. This production features Will Lyman (left), familiar to Boston audiences for his many roles at CSC and other theaters, and his decades of narrating Frontline on PBS.

Presented by Commonwealth Shakespeare Company.
