12:00 PM - 12:45 PM Wellness - Zumba

The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Originally created by Alberto “Beto” Perez in Columbia, Zumba® is a Latin inspired dance fitness class that combines interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms to sculpt and tone your body while burning fat.  Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, and to get hooked.  Zumba® fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in every calorie-burning, body-energizing class.  This class is perfect for all fitness levels and no dance experience is necessary!

Zumba®Toning - For those who want to party, but put extra emphasis on toning and sculpting to define those muscles!  It works by utilizing the challenge of adding resistance by using Zumba®Toning Sticks or light weights, which helps you focus on specific muscle groups, so you (and your muscles) stay engaged!  By using lightweight maraca-like toning sticks or light weights, Zumba Toning enhances sense of rhythm and coordination, while toning target zones, including arms, core and lower body.

So, join Dawn George, certified dance and Zumba instructor, as she leads you through the latest in fitness fun.  What are you waiting for?  Ditch the workout....join the party!

This is a family friendly event so feel free to bring the children in your life, as well! Light refreshments will be served.

About Science with Sophie:

Science with Sophie (SWS) is a fast-paced show inviting viewers to explore science all around them and remember that they are brave, curious, funny, smart scientists every day. With an all-female writing team and a wacky cast of characters (all played by Sophie), the show is Sophie’s light-hearted solution to the serious problem of inequity in STEM fields and under representation of women in mainstream science media.

About Sophie Shrand:

Sophie Shrand is a science educator, comedian, and actor with degrees in Neuroscience and Theatre from Northeastern University, Boston. She has researched humans and cocaine, held brains in her palm, generated three-story lightning bolts, and worked with a racist red-tailed hawk. In addition to founding SWS, Sophie develops educational programming at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, teaching 24,000 students per year. Sophie insists she can eat a literal bunch of kale in one sitting, but no one has agreed to bear witness. Yet.

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM IBM Food Trust: Blockchain for Food

This webinar is hosted by Rachel Greenberger of Food Sol at Babson College with special guest Lou Izquierdo of IBM Food Trust, a collaborative network of IBM with some of the largest players in food: Walmart, Tyson, Dole, Nestle and Unilever, among others.

Those following blockchain for the food industry have likely read the much-circulated Chinese mango case.  Last summer, Frank Yiannas, VP Food Safety for Walmart, had this team trace a packet of sliced mangoes back to the farm.  After numerous phone calls, faxes, and emails, the results were in—six days, 18 hours, and 26 minutes later.   Frank then did a live demo of the Walmart-IBM blockchain system in front of the media, tracing the same packet of sliced mangoes in 2.2 seconds.  The rest of that story is here

This webinar is open to all and you’ll have a chance to ask questions via WebEx chat.  This is an online-only event and will be recorded.  Details below:

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Understanding ICOs – The latest in Crowdfunding, Currency and Cons
Register here >>

TiE Boston and Babson College join Boston Blockchain Week (April 23 - 27th) - the largest gathering of blockchain founders, developers, and funders in Boston/Cambridge.

Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) are funding exciting startups and presenting new opportunities for investors to get a piece of the action while also creating a new funding vehicle that is changing founder/investor dynamics.

In this interactive and informative session, we’ll start with an overview of digital currencies and how the cryptocurrency market has evolved. Then, we’ll look at ICOs from both the investor and the entrepreneur perspective, revealing opportunities and risks, and discussing what goes into an ICO. Covering the market and regulatory issues at hand, we’ll also hazard some opinions on where we might find the next big thing! You’ll come away with a better understanding of ICOs and what it means for our entrepreneurial and investment community in Boston.
