All Day Remediation: Works by Azadeh Tajpour based on found footage and archival photos (Multi-Day Event)
Remediation: Works by Azadeh Tajpour based on found footage and archival photos
Exhibit on view: February 4- March 11
Hollister Gallery
The space between us and the other. Azadeh Tajpour is interested in the ways we receive and perceive information, especially the lenses through which we look at “others” exploring the gray area between “us” and “other”. To this end, the artist uses video stills from an American Drone in Afghanistan as a source for drawings, stills from found video of the 2009-10 upheaval in Iran become the basis for paintings, and archival photos are layered on top of each other to highlight their original contradictory captions. Though informed by different locations and events, each of the works uses the combination of the original media and the intervention of the artist to examine the layers of mediation through which we experience what happens “elsewhere”.

12:00 PM - 12:30 PM Big Data As Big Brother? How Customer Tracking Affects Privacy, Democracy, And Cultural Integrity

Overview

For the past five years, collecting, trading, and utilizing "big data" has become a commonplace practice in the business world. In the "wild west" of the digital world, companies scramble to lay hands on consumer data in a time and place where laws and regulations have not fully come into place. Managers are often preoccupied with technical questions about how to process such big data, but less frequently ask questions about how the data is acquired in the first place, how its aggressive implementation may interfere with consumer lives, and the associated problems of privacy, democracy, and cultural integrity.

This short webinar presentation will provide an important perspective for leaders to consider when thinking about how to apply big data to effectively create business value in the long term.
