All Day 10-22 Tuscany, Italy: Alumni Trip to Tuscany (Multi-Day Event)

ALUMNI TRIP TO TUSCANY: THE WORLD OF TUSCAN FOOD
October 22-29, 2018

Travel to Tuscany with Babson College next fall and learn that not only are the traditional dishes defined by the region but the ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal. Discover how Italian food and wine producers today are dedicated to creating fine products that are not only good business, but also rely solely on organic and sustainable agriculture.

Highlights
  • Enjoy a combination of group meals with curated menus and independent time on your own in the evening for culinary exploration as you taste your way through Tuscany.
  • Learn about organic farming from a local farmer, followed by a memorable evening dining at Arnolfo, a restaurant whose chef has been awarded two Michelin stars.
  • Indulge in a sparkling glass of Prosecco at the beautiful, medieval Hotel Palazzo San Lorenzo in the heart of Tuscany, and watch as the hotel’s chef creates local pici pasta, made only with flour and water.
  • In Siena, stroll through the unique medieval garden of Orto de’Pecci with a volunteer gardener. Witness firsthand how herbs and vegetables are used in the kitchen and then indulge in a delicious, seasonal lunch.
  • Visit a family-run ice-cream producer and hear stories about how the business has grown from the first store that opened in 1982. Step behind the scenes to witness how gelato is made, and stroll through the medieval heart of Siena with a delicious scoop of home-made gelato.
  • Meet with a small, artisan beer producer in San Quirico d’Orcia to learn about the production process, how he strives for quality over quantity, and the importance of only using natural ingredients sourced from local farmers.
  • Tour an all-woman-run winery near Montalcino, and learn how they are making it in a male-dominated business.
  • In the rolling hills of the Chianti region, learn about the pasta production process from an expert. From the grinding of flour to the making of the pasta dough, you’re sure to be pasta pros at the end of the demonstration!
  • Visit an olive oil estate in the Chianti region and witness how the owners have made innovative changes to the way olives are grown and the way oil is extracted. And, of course, enjoy a tasting after the presentation!
  • Take part in a truffle hunt in San Miniato, watch a demonstration on how to make several truffle dishes, and indulge in a truffle-based lunch that includes taglioni al tartufo.

12:00 PM - 12:45 PM Wellness - Zumba
The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Originally created by Alberto “Beto” Perez in Columbia, Zumba® is a Latin inspired dance fitness class that combines interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms to sculpt and tone your body while burning fat.  Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, and to get hooked.  Zumba® fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in every calorie-burning, body-energizing class.  This class is perfect for all fitness levels and no dance experience is necessary!

Zumba®Toning - For those who want to party, but put extra emphasis on toning and sculpting to define those muscles!  It works by utilizing the challenge of adding resistance by using Zumba®Toning Sticks or light weights, which helps you focus on specific muscle groups, so you (and your muscles) stay engaged!  By using lightweight maraca-like toning sticks or light weights, Zumba Toning enhances sense of rhythm and coordination, while toning target zones, including arms, core and lower body.

So, join Dawn George, certified dance and Zumba instructor, as she leads you through the latest in fitness fun.  What are you waiting for?  Ditch the workout....join the party!

5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Intergalactic Design Guide: A Conversation with Cheryl Heller
A Conversation with Cheryl Heller, author of
The Intergalactic Design Guide:
Harnessing the Creative Potential of Social Design

Social design is a new kind of leadership.

It offers innovative approaches for increasing creativity, strengthening relationships, and developing our capacity to collaborate—with the potential to transform everything from corporate cultures to cities. It pushes us to become comfortable with uncertainty, to design ourselves for change.

In The Intergalactic Design Guide, business strategist and designer Cheryl Heller explains eleven common principles, a step-by-step process, and essential skills for successful social design. She illustrates the social design process with in-depth examples—from the CEO of the largest carpet manufacturer in the world to a young entrepreneur with a passion for reducing food waste. While change-makers like Paul Farmer and Oprah Winfrey have instinctively practiced social design for decades, Heller organizes concepts applied by leaders in diverse fields so that they become accessible to all of us, no matter the focus of our work.
