10:00 AM - 12:00 PM WEBINAR: How are New Technologies Detecting Labour Trafficking and Exploitation?
Labour trafficking is the most common form of human trafficking but yet has only more recently been studied to the frequency of other forms of trafficking. With the growing public policy discourse related to the role of business, supply chains, and combating human trafficking, labour trafficking has been highlighted more and more in the media and increasing public awareness. In addition, the global crisis of mass forced migration has put a further spotlight on the exploitation of the most vulnerable. Empowering local actors to combat labour trafficking through digital tools is an innovative way to address this egregious human rights issue. The use of simple mobile phone technology can present an extraordinary opportunity to establish efficient, safe, and easy communication between trafficking victims and those at risk with the local agencies who can help them. This webinar will explore the latest trends in how technology is being used to address and prevent situations of labour trafficking and exploitation. The panel will feature expert speakers drawn from the private sector, academia, public policy and the NGO community including: David Riker, Co-Founder and CEO, BlueLine Grid Antoine Heuty, Founder and CEO, Ulula Lisa Rende Taylor, Founder and Executive Director, Issara Institute Samir Goswami, Human Rights and Business Consultant, Samir Goswami LLC (Moderator) This webinar is the second in our 2016-2017 RESPECT (Responsible and Ethical Private Sector Coalition against Trafficking) Webinar Series entitled, "THE PRIVATE SECTOR COUNTERING HUMAN TRAFFICKING: New Technologies, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Tackling Human Trafficking. " This is the third webinar series on emerging issues surrounding human trafficking, illicit trade and the private sector presented by The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime and Babson College’s Initiative on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery.
